Healthwatch Commissions
On this page you will find reports commissioned by CQC from Healthwatch. We will provide a description of the bid, the report and recommendation and how CQC have used the report.
Phases
The findings
The successful HW were Lincolnshire and Enfield.
The commissioned Healthwatch and their key findings for CQC
Healthwatch Lincolnshire - People experiencing Homelessness, People from low income households, Adults with Learning disabilities and young families and maternity service users.
- The main barriers identified to accessing digital services were lack of skills and confidence, connectivity/signal and data allowance
- Amongst all the groups there was widespread apathy. Many did not see the benefit in sharing their experiences as they saw no change as a result
- The majority did not feel that their opinion or feedback was listened to and valued as people saw no demonstrable change when they had shared their experiences previously
- Overall, participants appeared to want CQC to be more proactive in driving the collection of feedback as opposed to relying on the public remembering to give feedback

Healthwatch Enfield - Physical and or sensory disabilities, English as a second language, Long-term conditions, Mental health, Unpaid carers, Adults with learning disabilities and people with Autism
- The main barriers identified in accessing digital devices and services were language barriers, lack of skills, lack of confidence, physical impediments, sensory impediments, and costs.
- The main barriers identified in feedbacking to services were language
- Each group studied in our community engagement sessions has unique barriers to digital access - these can be found in the report.
Recommendations to CQC from both Healthwatch
- Increase public awareness of CQC and its role
- Outreach to isolated groups via community sector organisations
- Build trust with local communities
- Ensure people are informed about what happens with their feedback and the changes that have occurred as a result.
What have CQC have done with the insight
CQC is currently reviewing the insight in various work streams across the organisation including our Engagement teams, specifically those gathering the views of the public, our social media team and it was shared for insight with the team working on the Listening and learning review - which was looking at how well CQC listens to people when they report concerns to us. Internally we are currently writing an article in our staff internal e-magazine, which is shared with all staff.
